SYMBOLISM OF BODY IN FRENCH PROVERBS AND ITS EQUIVALENTS IN SUNDANESE: A CULTURAL SEMANTICS STUDY

A proverb is a type of folklore that passed down from one generation to another as tradition. In its formation, proverbs use expressions and word choices related life around the community cannot be separated cultural values it wishes express. One constituent elements parts human body which philosophically contain symbolic meaning can interpreted. this paper, French containing these terms are described, their meanings examined, then compared with Sundanese proverbs. The aim find universal different backgrounds. This research was conducted using descriptive-comparative method semantics approach. results study show used in names themselves, both external organs inside body. Apart that, functions parts, abilities, or disabilities also found data. From comparative perspective proverbs, have equivalent expressed various ways.
